For several years, every time I go to Astoria, OR I’ve passed the Maritime Museum. It always intrigued me, but I never found the time to stop and go in.
Well, this last weekend, I finally got the chance to go in and see it!
Some dear friends joined me and my wife for lunch at Buoy Beer and then we went to the museum.
There was a lot of information about the Coast Guard, the “bar” and how treacherous it can be. There was also a brief tour of the “Columbia”, an old light boat. Turns out this boat anchored about 6 miles out from the bar to warn ships. It had lights that could be seen for 15 miles and fog horns that could be heard for 5. Who knew?
Overall, a great day with great friends and my wonderful wife!
